Andy de Klerk is an alpinist, rock climber, BASE jumper, skydiver, husband, father, cabinetmaker and reluctant businessman. He started climbing at age 13 and has done hundreds of first ascents of new climbing routes in South Africa and worldwide. He has climbed difficult mountain peaks all over the world, many of them on his own. He is attracted to aesthetic, beautiful, and inspiring mountains to climb.
Started skydiving at age 16 and BASE jumping at age 18 using skydiving equipment. He then stopped for 11 years until better BASE specific gear was developed. Andy was the first to fly off Table Mountain with a paraglider. Andy de Klerk is a master cabinetmaker who owns a speciality woodworking business – Cabinetworks – that employs about 30 people with showrooms in Cape Town and Johannesburg. He lives in Scarborough, Cape Town with his wife and 4 children.
