TEDxTableMountain 2015 Journeys of Excellence:
In 2015, the TEDxTableMountain team created “Journeys of Excellence”, an evening event that took place on 25 May at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town.
The event was hosted on Africa Day, as a showcase for excellence in research and practice, drawing from fields as wide as health, sciences, arts, education and disabilities. We aimed to create a platform for dedicated, passionate and bright Africans working to solve our continent’s problems.
Free spirit, dancer, idealist. Candice enjoys making work playful and co-creating with others. An action-oriented rather impatient type, she gets excited about making dreams reality. When Candice met Maz in 2011 amidst numerous conversations about ‘Sustainable Relationships’, she said, ‘c’mon… let’s turn this into a TEDx event!’. There may have been some occasional moments of regret later on… Despite being impulsive, Candice is a finisher, and will do whatever it takes to get the job done. It is important for her to have meaningful relationships and to contribute to a greater good.
My motto is: have fun, create value, change lives. As an entrepreneur and TEDxCapeTown’s curator, I find that TEDx is one of the best places to live these values. I love spreading the good work of TEDx and creating opportunities for others. When I’m not building communities, you can find me surfing, swimming, cycling or competing in an iron man race.
Some of my passions are creating great things with inspiring people and making a difference in the world through the work that I do. As speaker coach, I’m out there scouting for the best speakers for our events. Then I’ll coach them to craft their ideas and deliver powerful talks. I’m easily distracted by a glass of wine, and the chance for a chat!
Agnieszka is a brand and communication specialist. Her journey has taken her across industries with companies at various stages, from 3 person startups to listed multinationals. Some of her clients include: Deloitte, Ferrari, BMW, Google, Microsoft, Mondi… the list goes on! When she’s not unlocking value in brands and taking them through their next growth phase, Agnieszka can be found jumping out of planes at 30,000ft, or at ground zero judging others leaping into the clouds.
Wesley Diphoko is an Information Architect and Social Entrepreneur.
Lee is the human swiss army knife. There’s almost nothing he can’t do. Lee landed in Cape Town 3 weeks before the event, and immediately began filling gaps we didn’t even know we had. A experienced coach and seasoned speaker, he brought a touch of genius to the creative flow and choreography of the day.

Ronell’s passion for communications and networking with entrepreneurs is what inspired her to change careers to technology PR, after 7 years in the NPO sector as a youth project manager facilitating media & leadership training, dabbling in blogging and website admin. Africa’s rapid growth in technology is what has fuelled her interest to communicate innovation out of Africa. Ronell currently works at DUO Marketing + Communications, has attained a degree in Media Studies at the University of Cape Town and short course diplomas in Marketing and PR at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

Jason brings to technology what Elvis brought to sequinned jump suits. He lives with his wife and daughter in the beautiful forests of Newlands. Jason got involved with TED through his passion for entrepreneurship and innovation and would like to work with great people who want to make a positive and lasting change in the world.
Being a true Capetonian, Jason is very laid back and likes long walks on the beach and drinking copious amounts of tequila (although we aren’t sure that this really is a Cape Town thing). Jason also has an awesome website, which he is very proud of, so go and have a look!

I want to be part of a society that succeeds in raising children who will not have to face issues of discrimination and in a world where we can be proud of our diversity. I studied law in Austria and Slovenia. Due to my passion for travel, I chose to combine joy and work. In the last few years I worked in international corporate and commercial law firms in Austria, Malaysia, Serbia and Thailand. I am the co-founder of an Austrian start-up, that operates an online magazine focusing on implementing a new definition of the word “hero”. We interview people on their daily lives who contribute positively to society and portray them in pictures and words. I decided to focus on human rights and I love working in that field!
